PC & Servers

PC & Servers covers complete systems and the structural parts that hold them together. On the systems side are HPE ProLiant DL, ML and BL servers from Gen9 through Gen11, Supermicro barebones, Synology NAS units, workstations, laptops and desktops. The parts side has risers, backplanes, power distribution boards, processor and memory boards, cable management arms, racks and laptop docks. Many of the systems are configure-to-order (CTO) chassis, which ship without some or all of their processors, memory and drives.

Buying guide

Buying a server or a server part

  1. Generation first

Risers, backplanes, drive cages and power parts change between generations of the same model. A DL380 G7, Gen8, Gen9 and Gen10 each take their own.

  2. Rack, tower or blade

Rack servers are measured in rack units (1U is 1.75 inches). Some towers convert to rack mounting with a kit, and blades only run inside a compatible enclosure.

  3. What's in the box

CTO and barebone systems often leave out rails, drive carriers or power supplies. Each listing's title and specifications show what's installed.

Frequently asked questions

What does CTO mean on a server listing?

Configure-to-order: the chassis and system board, sometimes with power supplies and fans, ready to be built up with the processors, memory, drives and controllers you choose. Base and Smart Buy models ship in a fixed configuration instead.

Can a tower server go in a rack?

Some can. The HPE ProLiant ML350, for example, has a tower-to-rack conversion kit with rails. Smaller towers often have no rack option, so check the model's options list.

Do you list older server generations?

Yes. The department runs from ProLiant Gen11 and Gen10 Plus systems back to Compaq ProLiant 1600R and ML570 G2 servers, and includes parts for HP Integrity, HP 9000 and NetServer systems.
