Frequently asked questions

Do Windows 10 and 11 support FireWire?

Both include a built-in IEEE 1394 driver that works with most OHCI-compliant cards, though some audio and video devices need the manufacturer's own drivers.

What's the difference between FireWire 400 and 800?

FireWire 400 (IEEE 1394a) runs at 400Mb/s over 4- or 6-pin connectors; FireWire 800 (1394b) doubles that and uses a 9-pin connector. The HP cards listed here are 1394a.
