Buying guide

Choosing a laser printer

  1. Monthly volume

Match the recommended monthly page volume to your usage. Workgroup models like the P3015 and M507 are built for far more pages than desktop units.

  2. Paper size

    Tabloid (11 x 17-inch) printing needs a wide-format model such as the CP5225 or the M712.

  3. Cost per page

Compare toner yield and cartridge price, not just the printer's price. High-yield cartridges lower the cost per page on busy printers.

Frequently asked questions

What do the letters after a LaserJet model number mean?

They list features: d is automatic duplex, n is a network port, w is wireless, t adds a paper tray, and x usually means a fuller configuration with extra trays and duplexing.

Do older LaserJets work with current computers?

Most connect over Ethernet or USB and print through Windows' built-in drivers or HP's Universal Print Driver. Models with only a parallel port need a JetDirect print server or an adapter.

What's the difference between LaserJet Pro and LaserJet Enterprise?

Pro models target small offices. Enterprise models add higher duty cycles, more paper options, stronger security features and fleet management.
