Buying guide

Choosing a fuser

  1. Voltage

Fusers are built for 110–127V or 220–240V power. One built for the wrong voltage won't heat correctly and can damage the printer.

  2. Fuser or maintenance kit

HP fuser kits contain the fuser alone, while maintenance kits pair it with rollers. If the printer is asking for its maintenance kit, fit the full kit.

  3. Warning signs

Toner that smears or rubs off, wrinkled pages, repeating marks and fuser error codes all point to a worn or failing fuser.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a fuser last?

On business LaserJets, typically between 100,000 and 225,000 pages, depending on the model. Heavy use of labels and thick stock shortens that.

Can I change a fuser myself?

On most LaserJets the fuser is a customer-replaceable unit behind the rear or side door. Switch the printer off and let the fuser cool first; it runs at roughly 200°C.

Do I need to reset anything after replacing the fuser?

Reset the fuser or maintenance counter from the control panel or service menu so the replacement reminder starts over. The printer's user or service guide gives the steps.
