Storage Array

Storage Array covers complete SAN systems rather than parts: HPE MSA 2050, 2052 and 2060 arrays with SAS, iSCSI or Fibre Channel controllers, and StoreVirtual 4730 nodes. An array combines dual controllers, drive bays and management firmware, so the decisions that matter are the host connection, LFF or SFF bays, and whether drives are included. Listings marked CTO or 'no drives' are configure-to-order chassis you populate yourself.

Buying guide

Choosing an array

  1. Host connection

SAN models connect over Fibre Channel or iSCSI through switches; SAS models attach a small number of hosts directly. Pick the one your servers and network already support.

  2. Controllers and bays

Dual controllers keep the array running through a controller failure. LFF chassis favor capacity; SFF chassis favor drive count and SSDs.

  3. Growing later

Arrays expand with disk enclosures from the same family, so check expansion support before buying a chassis to grow into.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between an MSA 2050 SAN and SAS model?

The SAN model's controllers have converged ports that run Fibre Channel or iSCSI over SFP+ optics, while the SAS model connects hosts directly over 12Gb/s SAS cables.

Can I add drive shelves to an MSA later?

Yes. MSA arrays take expansion enclosures from the same MSA generation, connected by SAS cables from the array controllers.
