Buying guide

Renewing network subscriptions

  1. Registered to a serial

FortiCare and FortiGuard contracts register to one appliance's serial number and can't be split across devices.

  2. Model-specific SKUs

Subscription SKUs are made for one model, so a FortiGate 60E contract won't register to a 60F.

  3. Bundles

UTP and enterprise bundles combine several FortiGuard services. Check which services your security policy actually uses.

  4. Bandwidth tiers

Juniper Session Smart Router subscriptions are sold by bandwidth tier and term, so size them to each site's link speed.

Frequently asked questions

What happens when a FortiGuard subscription expires?

The firewall keeps passing traffic, but services like antivirus, IPS and web filtering stop receiving updates, so protection falls behind current threats.

Can a support contract be added to a used appliance?

Usually, if the manufacturer still supports the model and the unit is registered to your account. Some vendors charge a reinstatement fee when coverage has lapsed.

What is an LTU?

A license to use: HPE's term for a license that turns on a feature, such as integrated routing on a SAN director or Remote Copy on a 3PAR array.
