Choosing a laptop keyboard
Layout
Keyboards are made per language layout. The US English listings here use the US key arrangement.
Backlit or not
A backlit keyboard only lights up in a laptop with the backlight connector and BIOS support, as the ThinkPad T430 and T530 have.
Several makers, one part
Lenovo sources the same keyboard from several manufacturers under different part numbers, and they're interchangeable for the same model.

Frequently asked questions
Will a T430 keyboard fit a T420?
No. The T430 moved to an island-style keyboard with a different layout and connector, so T420 and T430 keyboards don't swap without modification.
How is a laptop keyboard held in?
On many ThinkPads it's screwed in from the bottom and easy to replace. Some HP and consumer laptops have the keyboard riveted to the palmrest, which is then replaced as one part.
