Buying guide
Adding duplex printing
Accessory or internal part
Add-on duplexers fit the back or bottom of models sold without one. Internal duplex assemblies replace a failed part in printers that duplex as standard.
Driver setting
After fitting an add-on duplexer, mark it as installed in the printer driver so two-sided printing appears as an option.
Paper limits
Duplexers accept a narrower range of paper weights and sizes than the printer does, so heavy stock and envelopes usually print on one side only.

Frequently asked questions
Why does my duplexer jam?
Common causes are paper outside the duplexer's supported weight or size, curled paper, or worn rollers in the duplex path. Check the paper first, then the rollers.
Can any printer take a duplexer?
Only models designed for one. Printers with a d in the model name already duplex; other models in the same series may accept an optional duplex unit.
Does duplex printing slow the printer down?
Yes. Each sheet passes through twice, so two-sided pages print at a lower pages-per-minute rate, and many spec sheets list duplex speed separately.
