Buying guide
Choosing a card reader
Media formats
Check the card formats and speeds you use. Older readers built for SDHC can't read SDXC cards larger than 32GB.
Badge technology
Proximity readers must match the badge technology, such as HID Prox, iCLASS or MIFARE. Universal readers handle several.
Dual SD modules
Dell's internal dual SD module mirrors two SD cards so a hypervisor like VMware ESXi can boot without using a drive bay.

Frequently asked questions
Why won't my reader see a 64GB SD card?
It's probably an SDHC reader, which supports cards up to 32GB. SDXC cards need an SDXC-compatible reader.
Do smart card readers need drivers?
Most follow the CCID standard and work with Windows' built-in driver. Your organization's smart card middleware handles the certificates.
What is a magnetic stripe reader for?
It reads the stripe on payment, loyalty and ID cards at point-of-sale stations, and HP's USB mini reader mounts onto its retail systems.
