Internal power cabling
GPU power
Servers that take GPUs feed them through dedicated power cables from the system board or power distribution, and each kit is specific to the server and card.
Proprietary connectors
OEM servers often use non-standard internal connectors, like HP's 12-pin to 8-pin PCIe cable, so standard PC cables don't fit.
Cord ratings
Power cords are rated for current, so high-wattage supplies need heavier cords such as C19 to C20.

Frequently asked questions
Can I power a server GPU with a standard PC cable?
Not safely. Server GPU cables use proprietary connectors and pinouts, and the wrong cable can damage the card or the board.
Which power cord does my server need?
Most servers take a C13-to-C14 cord from a rack PDU, or a C13-to-NEMA 5-15P cord for a North American wall outlet. High-wattage supplies often use C19 inlets instead.
