Buying guide

Choosing a video cable

  1. DMS-59 splitters

Quadro NVS and some multi-display cards have a DMS-59 port that needs a splitter cable to drive two DVI or VGA monitors.

  2. Bandwidth for resolution

4K at 60Hz needs DisplayPort 1.2 or HDMI 2.0 on both ends and a cable that can carry it; older cables may fall back to 30Hz.

  3. Single or dual-link DVI

    Dual-link DVI is needed above 1920 x 1200 at 60Hz, for example on 2560 x 1600 monitors.

Frequently asked questions

Is Mini DisplayPort the same as DisplayPort?

Same signal, smaller connector. Mini DisplayPort appears on many laptops and older Macs, and a mini-DP to DP cable connects them to standard monitors.

Why does my monitor show no signal over DisplayPort?

Check the monitor's input setting, reseat both ends and try another cable, since cheap or damaged DisplayPort cables are a common cause. Some monitors also need their DisplayPort version setting changed for certain cards.
