Will a USB to parallel cable work with any printer?
With most printers that accept plain parallel data. Some older printers and plotters need drivers or two-way communication the adapter can't provide.
Do I need a serial or a parallel cable?
Match the printer's port. A Centronics or DB25 parallel port takes a parallel cable; an RS-232 serial port takes a serial cable, with the baud rate and flow control set to match.
