Network Memory

Network Memory covers DRAM upgrades for Cisco routers, firewalls and switches: modules for 1841, 2811, 2821, 2851 and 2951 routers, the 3600 series, ASA 5505, 5510, 5520 and 5540 firewalls, and Catalyst 6500 MSFC2 and DFC3A cards. Some are standard DDR or DDR2 registered modules with Cisco part numbers; others are formats only that platform uses.

Frequently asked questions

Why upgrade memory in a Cisco router or ASA?

Newer software releases and larger routing tables need more DRAM than the base configuration. ASA software 8.3 and later, for example, raised the minimum memory on the 5505, 5510, 5520 and 5540.

Will a standard DDR2 module work in a Cisco device?

Sometimes. Several Cisco parts are standard modules, but the form factor, voltage and ECC requirements have to match exactly, and Cisco supports only its own qualified parts.
