The Intel E40GQSFPESR is a high-performance 40 Gigabit Ethernet QSFP+ (Quad Small Form-factor Pluggable Plus) transceiver module. It is engineered for short-reach (SR) applications, making it ideal for high-density data center environments where high bandwidth connectivity is required between switches, servers, and storage devices over short distances. This transceiver operates using four parallel lanes, each capable of transmitting at 10Gb/s, to achieve an aggregate data rate of 40Gb/s. It utilizes an 850nm vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) and is designed to work with multi-mode fiber (MMF) optic cables. The standard connector for this type of transceiver is the MPO/MTP (Multi-fiber Push On/Mechanical Transfer) connector, which accommodates multiple fiber strands required for parallel optics. The E40GQSFPESR supports transmission distances of up to 150 meters over OM3 multi-mode fiber, and up to 100 meters over OM2. This makes it a cost-effective and efficient solution for intra-rack and inter-rack connectivity within data centers. Its pluggable form factor allows for easy deployment and management, contributing to the flexibility and scalability of modern network infrastructures.
