Product Description
The IBM 23R170201 is a Small Form-factor Pluggable (SFP) optical transceiver module designed for Fibre Channel (FC) storage area networks (SANs). It supports the 4Gb Fibre Channel standard, enabling data transfer rates of up to 4.25 Gigabits per second (Gb/s). This transceiver is specifically designed for use with single-mode fiber (SMF) optic cables, which are essential for achieving longer transmission distances compared to multi-mode fiber. Operating at a wavelength of 1310nm, this SFP module is suitable for medium-reach applications. It can achieve distances of up to 10 kilometers over single-mode fiber. This makes it an excellent choice for connecting SANs across different buildings on a campus, or for longer inter-switch links within a large data center environment where the 300m limit of multi-mode fiber is insufficient. The module utilizes standard LC duplex connectors, which are the industry standard for reliable fiber optic connections. As an IBM-branded part, it is engineered for optimal compatibility and performance within IBM's server and storage hardware ecosystem. The hot-pluggable nature of the SFP form factor allows for easy installation and replacement without the need to power down the connected equipment, ensuring high availability for critical storage infrastructure.
