The Brocade M-LHA is a Gigabit Interface Converter (GBIC) module, designed to provide 1 Gigabit per second (1Gb/s) network connectivity over single-mode fiber optic cables. GBIC modules were an earlier standard for network transceivers, offering a way to add fiber optic capabilities to network devices. The M-LHA module converts electrical signals from the network device into optical signals for transmission over fiber and vice versa, enabling communication over longer distances than copper cabling allows. This transceiver utilizes an SC connector, a common and robust connector type for fiber optics, known for its push-pull mating mechanism. It is intended for use with Single-Mode Fiber (SMF) optic cables, which are essential for achieving the long transmission distances supported by this module. The module operates at a wavelength of 1550nm, a standard wavelength used in telecommunications for long-haul fiber optic links due to its low attenuation in optical fibers. The M-LHA module is capable of transmitting data over distances of up to 80 kilometers (approximately 49.7 miles) on single-mode fiber.
