Choosing switch cables
Port and speed
SFP+ cables carry 10Gb, QSFP+ 40Gb and QSFP28 100Gb. Breakout cables split one QSFP port into four SFP connections.
Stacking cables
Stacking cables are specific to a switch family and its stacking ports or modules.
Console cables
Many Aruba and HPE switches have an RJ45 or USB console port. An RJ45-to-DB9 cable connects it to a serial port.

Frequently asked questions
What do QDR and FDR mean on InfiniBand cables?
They're InfiniBand speed grades: QDR runs 40Gb/s and FDR 56Gb/s over 4X links. Use a cable rated for at least your adapters' and switch's speed.
How long can a DAC cable be?
Passive DACs typically reach 5 to 7 meters at 10Gb. Beyond that, use active cables or optics.
What is a CX4 cable?
An older 10Gb copper standard, used here for HPE's local connect between switches. It's thick and short-reach compared with SFP+ DACs.
