Product Description
The Sony LTX100G/4 is a first-generation LTO (Linear Tape-Open) data cartridge, also known as LTO-1. LTO is an open magnetic tape format developed by HP, IBM, and Quantum, intended to provide a scalable and cost-effective solution for data backup and archiving. The LTO-1 generation offered a native storage capacity of 100GB, which could be doubled to 200GB when using data compression, making it a significant advancement in tape storage density at the time of its release. This data cartridge is designed for use in LTO-1 compatible tape drives. It employs linear serpentine recording technology, where data is written in parallel tracks across the tape. The LTO format was designed with backward compatibility in mind, allowing LTO-2 drives to read LTO-1 tapes, and so on, though write compatibility is typically limited to the same or newer generations. The Sony LTX100G/4 is suitable for organizations requiring a reliable medium for backing up and archiving data. While newer LTO generations offer much higher capacities and performance, LTO-1 cartridges remain relevant for accessing or migrating data from older backup systems or for environments that still utilize LTO-1 drives. Its robust design ensures data integrity for long-term storage needs.
